Lake Ala Kol located between Karakol to Altyn Arashan gorges, one of the most famous trek in Karakol. It lies at an altitude of 3860 meters above the sea level. The dimentions of the lake are 2.3 km long and 700 meters wide, and the depth of the lake is around 70m. 

This spot is usually used as an overnight point during the trek Altyn Arashan – Ala kol or Altyn Arashan – Jety oguz with the best view ever. This trek is not easy, however considered as most famous one in the region. 

The lake lies in a desert valley, surrounded by rocks and peaks of Terskei Ala Too. Stony paths and rocky mounds lead to it. 

The crystal clear water of the lake is fed by glacier flows and the outflow forms a waterfall. The lake freezes in October and thaws in May.

The color of the lake varies depending on the time of day, season and weather; it may be purple, dark blue or even pink.
